Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 17, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Handwriting AI (“we”, “us”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use handwriting-ai.com (the “Service”). By using the Service you agree to this policy.
The short version
Core editing and standard-paper handwriting rendering happen in your browser. When you import a custom handwriting template, we automatically store the original photo, scan, or PDF and processing diagnostics in private Cloudflare R2 storage, whether recognition succeeds or fails, for up to 30 days to troubleshoot template recognition. When you save a custom handwriting font, we store the character images, font metadata, and generated font files so you can reuse them across devices. If you save a worksheet or spelling packet, we also store that worksheet’s name, settings, and entered text on your account. Two other optional features send limited content to servers: clean built-in photo-paper downloads send a rendered content layer for temporary compositing, and AI Writer sends the text or prompt you provide to our server and DeepSeek. We also collect the account, payment, usage, security, and analytics data needed to operate the Service.
Information we collect
- Account information. When you sign up, we store your email address and authentication details through our auth provider (Supabase). If you sign in with Google, we receive your basic profile (name, email, avatar).
- Subscription & usage. Your plan, subscription status, and the number of pages you have exported each month, so we can apply your plan’s limits.
- Payment information. Payments are handled by our payment provider, Creem, acting as Merchant of Record. We do not receive or store your full card details — Creem does.
- Content you create. The text you type is kept in your browser’s local storage so your work survives a refresh. Inserted image files and custom photo paper are kept in browser IndexedDB by default. Free users can preview custom photo paper on this device; Premium members can sync custom papers to their account for cross-device use. Standard-paper rendering and imported PDF or DOCX processing happen on your device. We do not store ordinary editor documents or inserted image files in our application database. Worksheets you explicitly save to your account are stored separately, as described below.
- Saved worksheets. If you choose Save packet, or save a worksheet after download, we store the worksheet name, practice settings, and the text you entered — such as spelling words, sentences, or student names — in our database so you can reopen them across devices. Browser drafts and locally saved word lists stay on your device and are not uploaded. Free can save 5 worksheets, Starter 100, Pro 300, and Premium 600. Saving does not use download credits. Existing saved worksheets remain if you downgrade, until you delete them.
- Custom handwriting fonts. When you save a handwriting font project, we store font name and status, character atlases and edited glyph images, import metadata, and the generated or uploaded font files (such as TTF) in our database and object storage. A signed-in Free account can save, build, use, and preview one font. Exporting pages with it requires Starter or higher. Template recognition runs on your device. Original template photos, scans, or PDFs and processing diagnostics are automatically uploaded to private Cloudflare R2 storage on import, even when recognition fails or you do not save a font project. Diagnostics include image dimensions, marker detection results, and character counts. These temporary copies are used to investigate failures and improve recognition reliability, not to train AI models.
- Photo-paper exports. When an eligible user downloads a clean page using built-in photo paper, the browser sends the rendered transparent content layer, paper identifier, and page number to our server. If the page contains an inserted image, that image is baked into this one-time rendered layer; the original image file is not uploaded separately. The server composites the layer with the protected paper original and returns the result with private, no-store caching. Custom photo paper that you upload is stored locally in your browser’s IndexedDB.
- AI Writer content. If you choose AI Writer, the prompt fields and, when applicable, the current text you ask us to improve are sent to our server and DeepSeek to generate a response. Do not submit sensitive or confidential information to AI Writer.
- Technical data. Standard server and CDN logs (IP address, browser type, timestamps) from our hosting (Vercel) and DNS provider (Cloudflare), used for security and reliability. Vercel Analytics also collects aggregated site usage and performance data, such as pages visited, device or browser information, and referral information.
How we use your information
To provide and maintain the Service, authenticate you, process subscriptions and apply usage limits, store and serve your saved custom handwriting fonts and saved worksheets, provide requested photo-paper composites and AI Writer responses, troubleshoot custom font template recognition, understand aggregate product use, respond to support requests, and keep the Service secure. We do not sell your personal information.
Service providers
We share limited data with providers strictly to operate the Service: Supabase (accounts & database), object storage used for custom font assets and temporary template originals and diagnostics (Cloudflare R2), Creem (payments), Vercel (hosting), PostHog (product analytics and privacy-masked session replay), Cloudflare (DNS & email routing), and DeepSeek (AI Writer requests). Each processes data under its applicable terms and privacy policy.
Cookies
We use essential cookies for authentication and session management. PostHog stores an analytics identifier so signed-in activity can be connected across visits. Privacy-masked session replay hides input values, editor text, generated canvases, and uploaded image previews. We do not use advertising cookies.
Data retention
We keep account and subscription data while your account is active. Saved custom handwriting fonts and their related images and font files are kept until you delete the font project or request account deletion. Original template imports and their processing diagnostics expire after 30 days, independently of saved font projects. You can request earlier deletion by contacting us. Saved worksheets are kept until you delete them or request account deletion. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time (see below).
Your rights (GDPR & others)
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict its processing. To exercise these rights, email us at support@handwriting-ai.com.
Children
The Service is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their data. Do not save a child’s name or other personal details in a worksheet unless you have the right to store that information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above.
