How it works

Create your handwriting font in four steps

Start from a photo of existing writing. AI extracts the visible letterforms and simulates the missing basic characters; you review every glyph before building the font.

  1. 01

    Photograph your handwriting

Use a JPEG, PNG, or WebP with several representative letter shapes. A broader sample helps AI match your proportions, slant, and stroke rhythm more closely. Dark ink and even lighting work best.

  2. 02

    Crop the writing

Sign in, then crop tightly around the writing. Only the confirmed crop is sent. Unused paper stays in your browser.

  3. 03

Let AI extract and complete the set

AI preserves letterforms it can match, then simulates missing basic characters from the same writing style to create a complete editable base font.

  4. 04

    Refine, preview, and type

Clean individual glyphs, adjust baseline and spacing, add alternate letterforms on Pro or Premium, then type with your handwriting.

More than automatic tracing

Fine-tune your custom handwriting font

A scanned alphabet is only the starting point. The character workspace helps you correct the details that make a handwriting font readable and recognizably yours.

Edit individual glyphs

Clean stray marks and redraw strokes without repeating the entire photo.

Align letters on a shared baseline

Move and resize characters while comparing them with nearby letters.

Control letter spacing

Adjust left and right spacing for a more natural rhythm in words.

Add character variants

On Pro and Premium, keep alternate versions of a letter and use Natural letter variation in the editor.

Optional labeled template

Prefer a printable handwriting template?

If you want every character labeled in advance, download the free A4 PDF. It covers uppercase and lowercase English letters, numbers, punctuation, and symbols. Space is added automatically. Write on the first page and use the second as a placement guide. Photograph only the completed first page.

  • Use a dark, consistent pen. Faint pencil and heavy shadows make character edges harder to detect.
  • Keep every corner marker visible. The markers let the font maker straighten a slightly angled photo.
  • Write inside each box. Leave a little space around the strokes so neighboring characters do not merge.
  • Review words, not only letters. A glyph can look correct alone but still need baseline or spacing adjustments in a sentence.

Custom handwriting font FAQ

Is the handwriting font maker free?+

You can crop a handwriting photo without paying. A Free account can create, save, and edit one custom font draft. Building and using that draft requires Starter or higher, and downloading the TTF requires Pro or Premium. Each new handwriting scan uses 10 AI credits.

Can I make a font from a photo of my handwriting?+

Yes. That is the default path. Upload a photo, crop to the writing, and let AI extract your visible letterforms. It simulates missing basic characters from the same proportions, slant, and stroke patterns to create a complete base font. Review the generated glyphs because simulated shapes may need correction. A labeled printable template remains available when you want direct control over every character.

Can I turn my handwriting into a font online?+

Yes. Photograph your writing, crop the ink, review the extracted and simulated characters, and build a reusable TrueType font in the browser-based workspace.

Do I need an account to create a handwriting font?+

Sign in or create a free account before uploading a photo or a filled template. The blank template can be downloaded without an account. Free accounts can save and edit one font draft across devices; Starter or higher unlocks building and using it.

What file should I upload to the handwriting font maker?+

For AI from a photo, upload a JPEG, PNG, or WebP of existing handwriting, then crop to the text. For the printable template, upload the completed first page as a PDF, JPG, or PNG with all four corner markers visible.

Can I try the font maker without printing a template?+

Yes. AI from a photo is the starting point. On the printable template path, choose Try this sample photo to import the tutorial handwriting. That sample is not your writing.

Which characters can I include in my custom font?+

The complete base font covers all 94 visible printable ASCII characters: uppercase and lowercase English letters, numbers, punctuation, and symbols. AI copies shapes it can identify in your photo and simulates missing basic characters in the same style. The printable template also supports 32 optional letter groups such as th, ing, and tion. Space is generated automatically.

Can I edit individual letters after creating the font?+

Yes. You can clean a glyph, adjust its baseline, size, horizontal position, and left or right spacing, then compare it with neighboring letters in a word preview.

Can one letter have more than one handwritten version?+

Yes on Pro and Premium. Add alternate versions of the same character, then use Natural letter variation in the editor to reduce repeated letter shapes.

Can I download and use the finished handwriting font?+

Free can create, save, and edit one custom font draft. Starter or higher unlocks building and using that same draft. Pro and Premium can also download the generated TTF for use in other compatible software. You can also upload an existing TTF you own; uploaded fonts count toward the same plan limit.

How do AI credits work for handwriting scans?+

AI credits are separate from export credits. Each handwriting scan uses 10 AI credits; each AI Writer request uses 1 AI credit. AI Writer requires Premium. During the launch offer, selected free accounts are randomly chosen for 10 gifted AI credits after email verification — enough for one handwriting scan. Gifted credits do not expire and remain after upgrading. Free can create, save, and edit one font draft; Starter or higher unlocks building and use. Deleting a draft does not grant more credits.
